Itinerary

Warmly welcomed by our airport representative, you will be introduced to your dedicated chauffer for the tour. Drive to Anuradhapura.
Travel time 4 hrs. On the away visit to Aukuna statue.

Aukuna is known for the finely sculptured 12 m high statue of the Lord Buddha which is carved out of a rock face. The statue is believed to be built during the 5th century during the reign of King Dhatusena. The statue stands tall next to the Kala Wewa (Tank). This statue of the Lord Buddha is sculpted in the asisa mudra (The blessing position), which is unconventional for Sri Lanka. In this position the Lord Buddha holds his right hand up turned sideways. ‘Aukana’ means ‘sun eating’ and the best time to view the statue is during the break of dawn.

Lunch at Anuradhapura and check in to the hotel. Leave at 1500 explore Mihinthale.
Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site, and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures.
Return to hotel and on the way visit Ruwanweli Maha Seya.

ANURADHAPURA-POLONNARUWA- SIGIRIYA Leave at 0600 for worship the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi Tree (Peepal) is a sampling of the sacred Bo tree in India, in the shelter of which Prince Siddhartha Gauthama attained supreme enlightenment & became Buddha.
Return to the hotel. Breakfast and leave at 1000 explore Anuradhapura Pooja City. Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s sacred ancient city, surrounded by 3 great man-made lakes, is a treat for the Wanderers. Walk down history whilst you explore the city which at the height of its glory, ranked beside Nineveh and Babylon in its colossal proportions. The monumental dagobas, Jetavana Dagoba, Abayagiry Stupa and the Ruwwanveli Seya are amongst the greatest architectural feats of its age, and have been surpassed only in scale by the great pyramids of Khufru & Khafra at Gizah.

Next drive to Polonnaruwa. Travel time 2 hrs.
Lunch at Polonnaruwa and explore Polonnaruwa city.
The second ancient of Sri Lankas kingdoms, today the city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned archeological relic sites in the country. Its green environment, amazing ancient constructions (including a huge lake built in 1200a.d.), and its warm, friendly people make it an attractive city to visit. This was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Thereafter proceed to SIgiriya, Travel time 2 hrs. Overnight stay at Sigiriya.

Early morning visit (around 6.00am) Sigiriya. You will able to see stunning view while sun is rising. Sigiriya It was named as the eighth wonder of ancient world, a rock fortress of Sri Lanka. The entrance looks like the mouth of a lion, it stands tall even today reminding of ancient wonder. There are frescoes you can see inside the mighty rock. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed world heritage site. Back to hotel and breakfast. Leave at 1000 to Kandy and en route visit Dambulla cave temple.

Travel Time (Sigiriya to Kandy):3 hours 30 minutes En route visit to Dambulla cave temple The Golden Cave Temple is the largest and the best preserved temple that dates back to the 5th and to the 13th century has over 150 Buddha statues and Buddhist mural painting cover this 2000sq meter area. This is a UNESCO world heritage site.

 

 

KANDY Morning at 0600 visit to worship Temple of tooth. Temple of tooth

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the most prominent Buddhist temple in the country, it is located in the Royal Palace Complex of the former Kingdom.
Back to hotel breakfast. Thereafter visit to explore Kandy city.

KANDY-BENTOTA Breakfast. Leave 1000 to Bentota .Travel time 4 hrs.
The resort town of Bentota is located on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, 82km south of Colombo. Long stretches of sandy beaches, winding rivers, ancient history and exciting water sports make Bentota a popular destination for locals, as well as foreign holiday makers Reach to Bentota and leisure at the beach. Overnight stay at Bentota. Reach to Bentota and check in to the hotel and leisure. Overnight stay at Bentota.

Things to do The Gale Dutch fort
The Galle Dutch fort, this is also where the Portuguese first set foot in the year 1505 and built a fortress, which was later captured and fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. The fortress is one of the best preserved on the island. This is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Turtle hatchery Sea Turtles are one of threatened species of the world. Southern costal line is a common place for laying eggs by sea turtles. Visit turtle hatcheries and learn how they are conserved and protected.
Madhu river boat safari & fish foot massage Madu River is a complex coastal ecosystem of mangroves and islands. It may be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka. A boat trip is a wonderful way of seeing some of the hundreds of species of plants and animals.

Afternoon go on a site seeing and a shopping trip around the busy cities of Colombo. You’ll be seeing the famous Gangarama temple, Seema MaLakaya, Lotus tower the Municipal Council and Galle Face Green.
